Complete Soil, Concrete, Asphalt, Roofing and Structural Steel Services
Construction projects require step by step testing through a series of differing engineering disciplines. To satisfactorily assure structural soundness, complete quality control services must be available.
Geisser Engineering comprises a full-service engineering organization that is equipped to provide such services. Our involvement in construction projects can extend from consultation prior to and during the planning stages through all of the laboratory and on-site testing and evaluation stages. These services include site surveys, feasibility studies, soil and foundation investigations, engineering evaluations, and comprehensive materials testing and inspection services. We are also qualified to set soil and material specifications.
Geisser Engineering can manage and coordinate your entire construction materials testing program or assist you with any specific phase.
Lab and Field Soil Testing
Few things are more important to a construction project than the foundation and the ground beneath it.
It is essential to classify the soil at the construction site and determine whether or not it will accomodate the proposed structure. This process involves subsurface exploration (Allstate Drilling) and soil control.
Soil Testing
Construction quality control requires further soil and material testing to measure the amount and the effect of changes in soil density and moisture resulting from contractor adjustments.
Once the maximum soil density has been established by means of a laboratory compaction test (Proctor Test), in-place densities of the soil are determined in the field by:
- Sand Cone Method
- Water Balloon Method
- Nuclear Density Meter
- Cylinder Method
Bearing capacity is established by:
- Pile Load Tests
- Plate Bearing Loads
- California Bearing Ratio
Other soil tests performed include:
- Specific Gravity
- Relative Density
- Direct Shear
- Consolidation
- Grain Size Analysis
- Unconfined Compression
- Permeability
- Soil Cement and Soil Lime Stabilization
- Atterberg Limits
- Triaxial Shear
Concrete and Asphalt Testing
Because the strength of the materials is so important in construction projects, a battery of tests are executed to assure the suitability of the concreteand the asphalt. We provide complete testing services from mix design, consultation with contractors and suppliers, to the actual in-lab and on-site testing
Asphalt tests include:
- Aggregate Content
- Marshall Stability
- Bitumen Content
Concrete design test methods include:
- Compression Test
- Slump Test
- Air Content Test
- Yield Test
Aggregate test methods include:
- Specific Gravity
- Soundness
- Moisture Content
- Gradation
- L.A. Abrasion
- Unit Weight
Other testing services include:
- Concrete Plant and Field Inspections
- Bituminous Plant and Field Inspections
- Masonry Inspections
- Mortar Mix Designs
- Brick Testing
- Block Testing
- Masonry Prism Testing
Non-Destructive Testing
The reliabilty and safety of weldments depends largely upon the non-destructive examination of both structural and pressure system welds. Test methods employed for this purpose include:
- Ultrasonic-used to examine the internal integrity of welds through the use of ultrasonic sound waves.
- Magnetic Particle-used to detect surface discontinuities through magnetic field development.
- Dye Penetrant-used to detect surface discontinuities by means of both visible and flourescent dye penetrants.
Special Testing
The availability and use of a limitless variety of construction and other related materials often results in the need for unusual testing. With over 40 years experience in the field of special testing, we can offer the expertise and equipment to fufill many of your special testing needs.
